Murrunkun (Ebony) Leaves on scratchpaper

These are the leaves of Murrunkun, the Ebony tree (Diospyros humilis) which grows in sandstone areas and rocky gorges in Kakadu and West Arnhem Land. Murrunkun has a fruit which turns bright yellow during Bangkerreng, the late wet season. The fruit is sometimes eaten by bininj but it leaves a dry taste in the mouth.
