Galawan (Goanna)

$405

The name Kalawan (or galawan in Gundjeihmi spelling) means both the sand monitor and a generic name for all goannas.

Galawan is a reptile that is frequently caught by bininj (aboriginal people) and eaten on their homelands. They have white meat similar in texture to chicken.

The goannas lay eggs from which their young hatch. The diets of hatchlings and juveniles often consist mostly of insects and small lizards. It is diurnal, meaning most of its activities take place during the day. Anything smaller than itself will be eagerly devoured.
